Volunteering

We have a wonderful group of volunteers who play an important role in strengthening our school community

We are a community of courageous contributors. We believe parent participation is not merely an optional addition to the educational experience; it is fundamental to student success and well-being. By actively engaging with your child’s education, parents contribute to the creation of a supportive community where students can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. By actively participating in school activities, parents convey to their children that education is a priority worth investing time and effort into.

Each year, over 600 CHA parents, alumni, staff, and friends generously volunteer their time and talents to support the school. Whether you have a lot of time or just a little, we welcome all volunteers! Volunteering is a wonderful opportunity to connect with the CHA community, make new friends, and support our school and students.

There are many ways to make a difference as a volunteer.

How can I help Crescent Heights Academy?

Volunteers are needed for a variety of challenges. From assisting teachers with classroom prep, to planning our community events. There are always calls to action.

What are the requirements to volunteer?

To get involved in our fundraising or volunteering groups, you must fill out a criminal record check from the British Columbia Criminal Record Review Program, and a school contract. Both of these forms must be collected and presented in-person at reception with one of our Office Administrators.

How often are volunteers needed?

Our volunteer sign-up page regularly updates with new calls to action for community events. These events rely on our volunteers for success.

Why do I need a Criminal Record Check?

Volunteers working with students are required to provide a criminal record clearance letter, as mandated by the Ministry of Education. All records are kept confidential within the operations of the school. This policy ensures the safety and well-being of our students, other volunteers, and staff.

Parents must submit a clearance letter and an ICBC driver’s abstract to the office before driving students on field trips. This is a mandatory requirement for ensuring student safety.

For volunteer item donations, a criminal record clearance is not required.

How do I get school clearance to drive students on field trips?

In order to drive students other that your own child on trips, we require the following.

  1. A copy of the driver’s valid Class 1-5 driver’s license to operate a motor vehicle in BC;
  2. A current Criminal Records Check;
  3. A copy of the driver’s current insurance confirming that the vehicle to be used has a minimum of $2 million 3rd party liability insurance; and
  4. A copy of the driver’s abstract.

The Head of School or an Administrative Coordinator may revoke approval of a CHA Volunteer Driver at their complete discretion and for any reason at any time. They are required to revoke approval immediately upon receiving any indication that the CHA Volunteer Driver may be unfit to drive or has demonstrated any unsafe, irresponsible, or reckless driving, and may reinstate the approval upon the results of further inquiry if satisfied, at their discretion.

CHA Volunteer Drivers must comply with all requirements of the BC Motor Vehicle Act and the law. This includes all requirements related to safety restraints (for example – seat belts, car seats, and booster seats) and the safe transportation of passengers.

Any person who believes a CHA Volunteer Driver may be unfit to drive for any reason or who believes the CHA Volunteer Driver has demonstrated any unsafe, irresponsible, or reckless driving, must inform the Head of School or an Administrative Coordinator immediately.
